A : projects for interior-architecture, play- and game-design

impressions - the situation in the Reha Centre Braslaw

A 1: Design of play equipment / objects

Here the product designers in dialogue with the special education students are challenged to upgrade the leisure and play area of the reha-center Braslaw with new projects. Based on the exemplary projects in the European countries collected in the preparatory phase and with image support at the beginning of the creative workshop, the idea was to develop various design approaches. It is already becoming apparent that „counter-models“ to conventional, often kitschy objects with orientation towards the Bauhaus and Russian constructivism should be developed here. Models are to be built on a scale of 1:10, but also a 1: 1 experimental test object – with final testing of children and adolescents of the facility. For example, „Bisyboards“ – a children’s development board containing many different buttons, locks, latches, clothes pegs, and other items – has many participation offerings to the detail.

A 2: Interior architecture

Here, a flexible interior design is to be designed with separation of the areas for active play, communication and recreation. The rooms should also provide plenty of space for the children to build and design themselves. By installing platforms and levels the height of the room should be fully utilized. The result is tent-like constructions, cozy corners and niches to satisfy the different needs of the children. First participatory concepts are aimed at screens that are lined with textile surfaces and then painted by the children and young people of the institution.

A 3: Mural for the leisure area

In the course of „on the move I“ two large walls were chosen in summer 2018 in coordination with the management. This should be painted colorful and varied together with the children and young people of the institution. In order to express the esteem of the disadvantaged children, children’s designs should first be compiled in collage form – according to their own themes and motives – and then projected onto the wall on a large scale as a drawing template. After that, the painting with the help of professional students, who then also secure the completion of the big picture. First drafts to prove the possibilities of participation of the home-youth were already created in the summer of 2018. – „Translation“: Take pre-made different children’s drawings from the center of the picture, combine them into a common formal composition, transfer them graphically and transfer them to the wall in a contour.

A 4: further project proposals

further project proposals of the participants will be awaited after inspection of the center on the first day of the meeting in the summer of 2019.
